from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sara Rachel Juliane Kristoffersen (born December 18, 1937 in Nuuk ; † 2008 ) was a Greenlandic artist .

Life

Sara Kristoffersen comes from the Kristoffersen family of artists. Her father was Kristoffer Kristoffersen (1902–1970) and her mother Dorthe Kristoffersen (1906–1976). She is the sister of Simon (1933–1990), K'itura (* 1939) and Karl Kristoffersen (* 1943).

Like most of her family, Sara Kristoffersen worked with soapstone . Like her family members, she did not enjoy any artistic training and adapted the motifs of her parents and siblings. Some of her representations are realistic and show Greenlanders hunting a seal or a mother with her child, others are grotesque and taken from mythology, such as the representation of a qivittoq with only one, but oversized, ear. Her art has been exhibited twice in Denmark and is otherwise in the Greenland National Museum .
