Life

Dorthe Kristoffersen was the daughter of the hunter Pavia Johannes Timotheus Jakobsen (1870–?) And his wife Bertheline Augustine Thamar Poulsen (1878–?). On September 11, 1927, she married in Nuuk Kristoffer Kristoffersen (1902-1970). Together with their children Simon (1933–1990), Sara (1937–2008), K'itura (* 1939) and Karl (* 1943), the couple formed a family of artists who worked with soapstone figures .

Greenlandic family life was depicted in Dorthe Kristoffersen's sculptures. In others it showed the Sassuma arnaa , so it was also inspired by mythology. Her works are similar to those handed down from the Dorset culture , with little detailed faces and a distinctive bridge of the nose . Her works have been exhibited in Denmark and are permanently in the Greenland National Museum . Dorthe Kristoffersen died in 1976 at the age of 70.
