Saragiolo is a district ( fraction , Italian frazione ) of the municipality Piancastagnaio in the province of Siena , Tuscany region in Italy .
geography
The place is about 4 kilometers southwest of the main town Piancastagnaio and about 60 kilometers southeast of the provincial capital Siena . It is 901 meters and had about 370 inhabitants in 2001. Today (2017) there are approx. 350. Saragiolo is approx. 6 km south of the summit cross of the Monte Amiata mountain . The closest places are Tre Case (approx. 1 km east), a località of the main town Piancastagnaio and Bagnolo (approx. 2 km west), part of the municipality of Santa Fiora ( province of Grosseto ), which is approx. 5 km west.
history
The place is the only district of Piancastagnaio. It has been officially since 1946.
Attractions
- Santa Maria delle Grazie , parish church in the town center. Belongs to the Diocese of Pitigliano-Sovana-Orbetello , a suffragan diocese in the Archdiocese of Siena-Colle di Val d'Elsa-Montalcino .
Sports
The place was part of the Giro d'Italia 2011 . The first mountain classification of the fifth stage was named after him.
