Sarah Clarke OBE (born October 12, 1965 in Wolverhampton , Staffordshire ) is a British civil servant. Since February 13, 2018, she has been the first Lady Usher of the Black Rod since the office was founded in 1350.

Life

Clarke was born on October 12, 1965 in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England. There she went to a grammar school for girls. Clarke then studied at the Roehampton Institute of Higher Education , which she left in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science . In 1993 she earned a certificate from the Institute of Marketing and twelve years later a Master of Science from the University of Leicester .

Clarke works as the tournament director for the Wimbledon Championships . She has also worked for four Olympic Games , the London Marathon and UK Sports .

In November 2017, Clarke was named the first Lady Usher of the Black Rod in the almost 670-year history of the office and took office on February 13, 2018 as the successor to David Leakey .
