Sarah Teelow

Sarah Rachel Teelow (born August 30, 1993 in Portland , Victoria , † November 25, 2013 in St Leonards , New South Wales ) was an Australian water ski racer.

Life

Teelow was born in 1993 in Portland, Victoria, as the daughter of water ski racer Tania Williams and New Zealander Chris Teelow. Her mother won the Australian Water Ski Championship from 1984 to 1989 under her maiden name Tania Williams . Sarah Teelow attended St. John's College in Dubbo City before starting her kinesiology degree at the University of Technology, Sydney in 2012 . Teelow lived in Wellington , New South Wales until her death .

Sports career

Teelow started her waterskiing career in 2007 at the age of 13 at a national competition at the Burrendong Dam , before taking part in a world championship for the first time two years later. At the competition in Belgium she finished fourth as a newcomer. In the following years competitions in the USA, Austria, Belgium, Great Britain, Spain, Germany and Italy followed, before Teelow won the Formula Two water ski world championship at the World Waterski Racing Championships on the Canary Islands in Spain in September 2013 . She followed in the footsteps of her mother Tania Teelow, who won the 2007 world championship title.

Teelow had an accident on November 24, 2013 at the Bridge-to-Bridge Classic's with her water skis on the Hawkesbury River north of Sydney . After her fall, she was rescued and flown to the Royal North Shore Hospital in St Leonards, New South Wales, where she succumbed to her injuries a day later.
