The Sarandaporos ( Greek Σαραντάπορος ( m. Sg. )) Is a river in the Greek regions of Epirus and Western Macedonia .

geography

The Sarandaporos has a length of about 50 km. The source rises on the mountain Mavri Petra (Μαύρη Πέτρα) at an altitude of 1,500 m above sea level , in the mountains of the Grammos and flows as a right tributary into the Aoos . The last 10 km of the river form the Greek - Albanian border up to the vicinity of the Mertzianis customs station (Μέρτζιανης) . From there the waters flow on to Albania and ultimately pour into the Adriatic Sea . The catchment area covers approx. 870 km² and the average discharge rate is 6.9 m³ / s. The river brings together the waters of streams that come from the southern flank of the Grammos and from the western flank of the Smolikas and Voios . He also takes on the Vourkopotamos (Βουρκοπόταμος), which flows to him at Agia Paraskevi (Αγία Παρασκευή), Kerasovo (Κεράσοβο). The Sarandaporos with its valley separates the Smolikas from the neighboring Grammos massif in the north-west, directly on the Albanian border. To the north, the Sarandaporos valley separates the Smolikas from the massif of the Kato Arena and Epano Arena. One of the most remarkable bridges is the two-arched bridge between the places Drosopigi (Δροσοπηγή) and Plagia (Πλαγιά), this bridge was built in 1747.

Arrenes (Αρρένες, to Nestorio ), and Mastorochoria in the municipality of Konitsa are the municipalities that the Sarandaporos crosses on the Greek side. In Albanian territory it runs in the area of the municipalities of Qendër Leskovik (to Kolonja ) and Çarçovë (to Përmet ).
