The Saraswati is a left tributary of the Alaknanda , the left source river of the Ganges , in the Himalayas in the Indian state of Uttarakhand .

The headwaters of the Saraswati are located on the Mana Pass at an altitude of 5500  m . The Saraswati flows in a predominantly south-south-east direction through the north-west of the Chamoli district . It separates the Kamet group in the east from the Gangotri group in the west. The Arwa meets the Saraswati on the right at Ghastoli , 10 km north of Mana . Finally, the Saraswati flows into the upper reaches of the Alaknanda at Keshav Prayag , near the village of Mana and 5 km north of Badrinath . The Saraswati has a length of about 40 km.
