The inflorescences form spikes from 100 to 450 (rarely from 35) flowers . Flower stalks are absent or rarely extremely reduced.
The nectaries are stalked, lie - at least in the upper half of the inflorescence - on the inflorescence axis at the flower base and are bowl-shaped or sack-shaped.
The brightly colored flowers are five-fold, the petals are not overgrown or weakly overgrown at the base. There are eight to twenty-five (rarely six) stamens , the stamens are ingrown or fused with the crown. The ovaries are completely two-, three- or five-chambered with four to eight (rarely up to twelve) ovules per chamber. One stylus is missing.
