Sarkis Diranian
Sarkis Diranian ( Armenian Սարգիս Տիրանեան , born February 17, 1859 in Constantinople , † January 20, 1938 in Paris ) was an Armenian genre, nude and landscape painter and orientalist painter who worked in France.
Diranian studied painting at the Academy of Drawing and Painting, established in 1875 by the French painter Pierre-Désiré Guillemet on Hamalbaşı Street in Beyoğlu (Pera).
He continued his studies at the École des beaux-arts de Paris with Jean-Léon Gérôme . From 1889 he worked as a freelance artist in Paris. He dealt with genre, nude and landscape painting, also with scenes from the oriental milieu.
In 1883 or 1884 he was awarded the Order of Medjidie by the Ottoman government . In 1887 he received a monthly grant from the Ottoman Ministry of Education .
From 1883 to 1910 he showed his works in the Salon of the Société des Artistes Français . Diranian received honorable mentions at the Paris Salon in 1892 and at the Paris Exposition in 1900 . In 1908 his solo exhibition took place in Paris, in 1909 he took part in a joint exhibition in Munich.
