Sarp ( Georgia სარფი , Laz Sarpi ) is the southern part of the divided border village in the province of Artvin in northeastern Turkey . It is located on the Georgian- Turkish border at an altitude of about 50 meters directly on the coast of the Black Sea and belongs to the district of Hopa . The inhabitants belong to the Lasen people . The neighboring town in Georgia is Sarpi .

Sarp was in the judicial district of Gönye of Sanjak Lazistan during the Ottoman period . After the Russo-Ottoman War in 1878, Sarp passed to the Russian Empire. Between 1918 and 1921 it was part of the Democratic Republic of Georgia . When the borders between the Soviet Union and Turkey were determined in 1921, it was decided to divide the village.
