geography

The Saselbek as the border between Sasel and Bergstedt

The brook flows from the Allhornteich in the Hamburg district of Volksdorf . It flows in a westerly direction, passes the Volksdorfer center, crosses the Volksdorfer Teichwiesen nature reserve between Volksdorf and Sasel , forms the border between Bergstedt and Sasel and stretches slightly north-west into the Hainesch / Iland nature reserve . It flows into the Alster at the Alte Mühle above the Mellingburg lock . The Saselbek is thus a 3rd order body of water. The Gussau in Volksdorf, the Streekbek and the Furtbek in Bergstedt are worth mentioning as a tributary .

The Saselbek forms the former course of the Gussau and Allhorn glaciers, which penetrated into the region of today's forest villages during the Vistula Ice Age .

In the lower reaches of the Saselbek range steep edges where kingfishers nest.
