Sasha Berliner

Sasha Berliner (born June 20, 1998 in San Francisco ) is an American jazz musician ( vibraphone , composition ).

Live and act

Berliner grew up in Oakland . She started learning to play drums when she was eight and has been playing the vibraphone since she was 13. She was trained in the SF Jazz High School All Stars Orchestra and completed the Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music . Since 2016 she has been studying in New York City at the New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music .

Berliner has been a member of Tyshawn Sorey's sextet since 2018 . She has also worked with her own group and with musicians such as Nicholas Payton , Ravi Coltrane , Beck , Warren Wolf and Victor Wooten . In 2019 she played at major jazz festivals in Canada and the United States.

Prizes and awards

In January 2019 she won the Rising Stars Jazz Award. In 2019 she was nominated in the Down Beat readers 'poll as best vibraphonist and in the JazzTimes readers' poll as best new artist. At the Down Beat Critics Poll 2020 she was the winner in the Vibraphone / Rising Star category.
