Warren Wolf Jr. (* 10. November 1979 in Baltimore ) is an American jazz - vibraphone (including drums , piano ) and composer .

Life

Wolf, who is from Baltimore , took music lessons from his father Warren Wolf Sr. at the age of three; In the following years he learned vibraphone / marimba, drums and piano. After a classical apprenticeship with Leo LePage, he dealt with ragtime and jazz. After graduating from the Baltimore School for the Arts (1997), he studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, a. a. with Dave Samuels and Ed Saindon . During this time he played a. a. with Jeremy Pelt , Wayne Escoffery , Kendrick Scott and trumpeter Jason Palmer , with whom he led a quintet that performed at the Wallys Cafe jazz club , where Wolf was the house drummer for two years. After graduating from Berklee in 2001, he worked as a professional musician in the Boston area; from 2003 he also taught at the Percussion Department at Berklee College. After two years he returned to Baltimore and worked there as a music teacher and musician. a. with Tia Fuller ( Healing Space , Mack Avenue 2007) and in the formation Donal Fox with John Lockwood , Dafnis Prieto and Terri Lyne Carrington , also with Bobby Watson .

In 2005 Wolf presented the debut album Incredible Jazz Vibes , on which u. a. the pianist Mulgrew Miller also took part; In 2011 the album Warren Wolf was released with his own compositions, which he recorded with Christian McBride and Gregory Hutchinson , followed by Wolfgang ( Mack Avenue ) in 2013. In the field of jazz, Wolf participated in 16 recording sessions between 2001 and 2012.

In 2010 he won the Rising Star category in the Downbeat Critic Polls (vibraphone).
