Sasu Hovi (born August 12, 1982 in Toijala ) is a Finnish ice hockey goalkeeper who has been playing for HC Kometa Brno in the Czech extra league since 2009 .
Career
Sasu Hovi began his career in the offspring of his home club Tappara Tampere . After he had gone through all the junior teams, he was two backups of Jussi Markkanen in the first Finnish league, the SM-liiga, during the 2000/01 season . In the following season he made his debut in the SM-liiga and achieved a catch rate of 96 percent in six missions.
Until 2005 he continued to play mainly for Tappara in the SM-liiga, but also got assignments with the Pelicans and Kokkolan Hermes , KooKoo , Kiekko-Vantaa and Hokki Kajaani in the Finnish second division . In the summer of 2005 he left Finland and moved to the Czech extra league for HC Vsetín . However, the Czech old master missed the playoffs and had to defend his place in the extra league in the relegation. After this disappointing season, Hovi moved to Slovan Bratislava in the Slovak Extraliga and became Slovak champion there in his first year . Especially in the playoffs, he showed an outstanding performance with a catch rate of 96 percent and an average goal against goals of 1.57 and was named the best goalkeeper of the season. The same honor was given to him at the European Champions Cup 2008 .
After the season 2008/09 he got no contract extension with Slovan and signed a contract with the Czech promoted HC Kometa Brno .
During the summer, Hovi plays inline hockey and participated with the Finnish national team in the IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship 2007 , where the Finnish selection took second place.
