The Satsuma Peninsula ( Japanese 薩摩 半島 Satsuma-hantō ) is a peninsula in the south of Kyūshū in Kagoshima Prefecture in Japan .
It separates the East China Sea in the west from Kagoshima Bay in the east, on the other side of which lies the Ōsumi Peninsula . The peninsula has an area of 1399.85 km² and a length of 65 km². The towns and cities on the peninsula include Kagoshima, Ibusuki , Hioki , Ichiki-Kushikino , Minamisatsuma, and Makurazaki .
