Saurbek Kazbekowitsch Sidakow ( Russian Заурбек Казбекович Сидаков ; born March 14, 1996 in Surgut , Khanty-Mansiysk region ) is a Russian wrestler . In 2018 and 2019 he became world champion in free style in the weight class up to 74 kg body weight.

Career

Saurbek Sidakov began wrestling as a teenager in 2006. He concentrated on the free style. First he wrestled for the Alany Sports Club , now he wrestled for the Vladikavkaz Army Sports Club . His coaches were or are Totras Archegow, Elbrus Dudajew, Wachtang Pliew and the coach of the Russian national team M. Tedejew.

He had already attracted their attention in 2014 and sent them to the "Copa-Brasil" in Rio de Janeiro in November of this year, where he immediately won a tournament in the weight class up to 65 kg.

In January 2015 he took 3rd place at the renowned "Ivan Yarigin" Grand Prix in Krasnoyarsk in the same weight class behind Ilyas Bekbulatow , Russia and Brent Metcalf from the United States. He was then appointed to the Russian team at the World Cup in Los Ales in April 2015. He was used there three times, but still had to pay the hard way, because he lost in the weight class up to 65 kg against Mandachnaran Ganzorig, Mongolia, Franklin Maren Castillo, Cuba and Magomed Muslimow, Azerbaijan, each on points. In August 2015 he won his first medal at an international championship at the Junior World Championship (Juniors) in Salvador da Bahia in the weight class up to 65 kg with the bronze medal behind Teimur Mammadow, Azerbaijan and Yuhi Fujinami, Japan.

In January 2016, Saurbek Sidakov made a huge step forward with his victory at the "Ivan Yarigin" Grand Prix in Krasnoyarsk in the weight class up to 70 kg. He won there ahead of his compatriots Chusey Sujunchew, Rasul Arsanalijew and Asamas Sanakojew. He was then used at the European Championships in Riga in the same weight class, but there lost his first fight against Magmedmurad Gadschiew from Poland on points. Since this reached the final, he was able to continue in the consolation round, in which he first defeated Dewid Safarjan, Armenia, but was beaten on points by Asamat Nurikau from Belarus in the fight for a bronze medal and thus came in 5th place.

In May 2016, Saurbek Sidakov became the first Russian senior champion in the weight class up to 70 kg. In June 2016 he started at the European Junior Championships in Bucharest in the weight class up to 74 kg, but had to admit defeat there in the final against Murad Suleimanow, Azerbaijan.

In January 2017 he took second place behind Israil Kasjumow at the "Ivan Yarigin" Grand Prix in the weight class up to 70 kg . In March 2017 he faced another test at the U23 European Championships in Szombathely. He reached the final there, in which he was defeated, however, against Gadschimurad Omarow from Azerbaijan. He did not come to any further appearances at international championships this year.

At the "Ivan Yarigin" Grand Prix 2018 in Krasnoyarsk, Saurbek Sidakov was defeated in the final by former world champion Chetag Zabolov . In May 2018 he became military world champion in the weight class up to 74 kg in Moscow and a month later he also won the U23 European championship in Istanbul. He defeated u. a. Johann Steinforth from Germany, Awtandil Kentschadze from Georgia and in the final Achsarbek Gulajew from Slovakia. The victory at the Russian championship in August 2018 was almost even more important for his career. In the weight class up to 74 kg, to which he had finally switched, he defeated Chetag Zabolow in the final. He then represented his country at the World Cup in Budapest in October and showed a masterpiece there. He defeated the strong wrestlers Miroslaw Kirow from Bulgaria and Franklin Gomez Matos from Puerto Rico. In the quarter-finals he defeated the 2012 Olympic champion and multiple world champion Jordan Burroughs from the United States with 6: 5 points, in the semifinals the reigning world champion from 2017 in the weight class up to 70 kg, Frank Chamizo Marquez , Italy, with 3: 2 technical points and in the final he defeated Awtandil Kentschadze in a tough battle. If there was a tie of 2: 2, the final score decided for him. He became world champion with it.

In January 2019 he set the course for a successful 2019 season with a victory at the "Ivan Yarigin" Grand Prix in Krasnoyarsk. In March 2019, he was also part of the victorious Russian team at the Team World Cup in Yakutsk. He was used there twice, defeating Cristian Reinier Colombat Riviera, Cuba and Reza Alireza Afzalipaemani, Iran. In June 2019 he won the 2nd European Games in Minsk in the weight class up to 74 kg. On the way to this success he defeated Awtandil Kentschadze, Asamat Nurikau and Söner Demirtas.

At the 2019 World Cup in Nur-Sultan (Kazakhstan), Saurbek Sidakov met Jordan Burroughs in the weight class up to 74 kg after winning three fights in the semifinals. Until about 15 seconds before the end of the fight he was 2: 1 techn. Points in the lead. Then Burroughs managed a two-way ranking, which made him 3-2 techn. Points in the lead. Saurbek Sidakow managed to equalize in the few seconds until the end of the fight to make it 3: 3. He had therefore won this fight based on the last score achieved. Burroughs asked for the so-called video evidence, but he lost it. The "1" awarded to Sidakov was actually meaningless. The final battle against the Italian Frank Chamizo Marquez was even for a long time. It was only shortly before the end that Saurbek Sidakow managed to score the points necessary to win. He became world champion for the second time.
