Sausthal

The district of Ihrlerstein in the northern district of Kelheim , united under the names Sausthal and Rappelshofen, was laid out in 1798 by the Munich State Councilor Joseph Ritter von Hazzi in the Painten Forest as a colonist settlement in the plan of the Waldhufendorf.

The first inhabitants were in the recovery of Jura limestone and green sandstone for the magnificent buildings of King Ludwig I worked. The quarry owner Jakob Ihrler from Neukelheim dedicated the bell of the village chapel to the hardworking workers. Today the jobs of the 160 residents are mainly in Kelheim, Ingolstadt and Regensburg.

The wooded high altitude at 500  m above sea level. NN in the eastern Altmühltal nature park is a major attraction for tourism with the possible meteorite crater , the observatory and gastronomy .

On January 1, 1935, Neukelheim was incorporated with Sausthal and Rappelshofen into the new community of Ihrlerstein.
