Savalen is a Norwegian inland lake that is located in the municipalities of Tynset and Alvdal in Innlandet and also a place on this lake.
The lake is regulated and is used as a reservoir by the Savalen power plant (62 MW ).
The village of Savalen, located on the lakeshore, is one of the largest resorts in the region. The Savalen Fjellhotel is at its northeastern end. The artificial ice rink near the hotel has become famous for several world and Norwegian records, including Frode Rønning , Jan Egil Storholt , Rolf Falk-Larssen and Johann Olav Koss . There are also alpine ski slopes with two lifts, a ski stadium and a roller ski trail.
The Norwegian writer couple Arne and Hulda Garborg lived in a hut in Kolbotnen on the Savalensee from 1886 to 1896. It was here that Arne Garborg composed his collection of letters, the Kolbotnenbriefe, which were published in 1890.
