Savigno , in Emilian language Savéggn , is a fraction of the Italian commune ( comune ) Valsamoggia in the metropolitan city of Bologna , Emilia-Romagna region . Its inhabitants are called Savignesi .

Local area

Its main town of the same name encompasses a flourishing area that encompasses the entire high valley of the Samoggia river . The area marks the watershed with the Reno valley and consists of mountains and valleys, in which the cultivation of mainly forage alternates with forests and ravines. A rich tradition of woodcutters, horse breeders and truffle farmers can still be found in the area. The truffle in particular is the product that most of the village designates: the Bianco pregiato dei Colli Bolognesi , which is very common in Germany, made Savigno earn the honorary title of Città del Tartufo , which is now recognized worldwide. There are also interesting parishes, presentations by speakers and old mills to be found.

history

On January 1, 2014, Savigno formed the new municipality of Valsamoggia together with the municipalities of Bazzano , Castello di Serravalle , Crespellano and Monteveglio . The merger of the municipalities was preceded by a referendum on November 25, 2012, in which a majority in Castello di Serravalle, Crespellano and Monteveglio voted for and in Bazzano and Savigno a majority against the merger. In Savigno the rejection was 56.8%. The results of all five municipalities added together, however, resulted in a vote of 51.46% for the merger.

Attractions

Particularly important are the Oratorio di S.Matteo (house of prayer of St. Mattheus) on the main square of the main town; the Pieve di San Giorgio (parish of San Giorgio) in the locality of Samoggia, built in 1015, where one of the most beautiful altars from the 17th and 18th centuries in the Apennines is kept; the medieval Chiesa Parrocchiale of S.Maria Assunta di Merlano, renovated in the 18th century and practically rebuilt in 1870. Inside are fine clay busts from the 17th century and a remarkable organ case from the 17th century. The village of Vedegheto in the valley of the Venola stream (tributary of the Reno ) is rich in towers and old houses. An old water mill is still in operation there. Precisely because of the nature of its area, which is cut by many streams of water, Savigno lists various water mills that can be visited in a route from the Mulino del Notaro via the Molino del Dottore and the Molino del Cozzo to the Segaticcio. In Poggio and Casa Ropa two tower houses are noteworthy, one from the 15th century and the other from the 12th century.
