Attractions

The main attractions include the Palazzo Boccadiferro , the Torre della Guardia (watchtower) and the Palazzo del Capitano (captain's palace), which was later converted into the town hall, as well as the bell tower and the church of St. Peter.

Masterpieces by the artists Pio Passuti from Bazzano, Giuseppe Marchesi from Bologna , Luigi Samoggia and Bartolomeo Passarotti are kept in the church of Sant'Apollinare, built in the 18th century . On the Zappolino hill , the seat of the castle that played a major role in the war between Modena and Bologna in 1325, is the Church of St. Anthony, which in 1958 replaced the church destroyed by an earthquake in 1929.

In Fagnano there is the church of Santa Maria Assunta with its pre-Romanesque bell tower and its long cloister with loggia. A plaque next to the church , which was expanded in the 19th century, commemorates Pope Honorius II , who is said to have come from Fagnano.

From Zappolino to Savigno via the Samoggia Valley, you will come across many other structures: the Case Rosse (Red Houses) from the 15th century, Cà Bertù and the buildings of Cuzzano (Palace, Tower and Church of the Holy Cross). In Maiola you can visit the Church of St. John from 1300, which was rebuilt in the Neo-Byzantine style at the beginning of the 20th century, and the Torre di Gavezzano , Case Ceccoli di Sotto and Tiola , the seat of an old castle. The Church of St. Michael towers high on the top of the hill, the current building of which dates back to the 18th century.
