Sawani (also: Saouani ) is the capital of the rural community of Sinder in Niger

The village of Sawani, run by a traditional chief (chef traditionnel) , is located on an island in the Niger River . It is the capital of the rural community of Sinder, which is part of the Tillabéri department in the Tillabéri region. The regional capital Tillabéri is located around twelve kilometers east of Sawani.

At the 2012 census, Sawani had 2,034 residents who lived in 281 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 1,027 in 144 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 3,839 in 564 households.
