Scale the Summit is an American progressive metal band from Houston , Texas that was formed in 2004.

history

The band was formed in 2004 after guitarists Chris Letchford and Travis Levrier moved to Los Angeles to join the Musicians Institute and met drummer Pat Skefington. A few months later, bassist Jordan Eberhardt joined the group and completed the line-up. Letchford and Levrier also took a guitar making course, where they learned how to make their own guitars. In late 2006 the group moved to Letchford's hometown of Houston, Texas, where they recorded their first album called Monument . The album was self-released in 2007. After the group signed a contract with Prosthetic Records in 2008 , the recording of the second album began. The sound carrier was released in February 2009 under the name Carving Desert Canyons , where it was recorded in New Jersey in the Nut House Recording Studio . The next album followed in 2011 under the name The Collective , which was followed by The Migration in 2013 . In April 2012, bassist Jordan Eberhardt left the band because touring was too stressful for him and was replaced by Mark Michell.

style

In their band biography, the group states progressive metal bands such as Dream Theater and Cynic as influences and describes their music as "Adventure Metal". Eduardo Rivadavia from Allmusic also compared the band with the two groups mentioned and used Kong as a further comparison . The guitarists would have the virtuosity of Joe Satriani and Steve Vai . According to Petra Schurer from Metal Hammer, the instrumental music on The Collective merges elements from jazz , progressive rock and extreme metal . Schurer also drew comparisons with the current publications by Cynic. According to Tom Küppers from Metal Hammer, the band in The Migration focuses less on portraying the technical playing skills of the artists and more on catchiness. In contrast to its predecessors, you miss the vocals less. Breaks and tapping are characteristic of the songs .
