The Schütte Choir is a mixed choir and was founded in 1975 by former Schaumburg fairy tale singers ("The Happy Wanderer").

history

After the first concerts in the Schaumburger Land , the choir, under the direction of Jürgen Schütte , became known beyond the borders of the Schaumburger Land through several broadcasts of its own on Norddeutscher Rundfunk and an appearance on the ZDF Sunday turntable. Since then the choir has given many concerts at home and abroad. At the invitation of the City of Vienna , he took part in the traditional Advent singing in 1984. Further highlights were concert tours to the Netherlands (1979 and 1991), Budapest (1986) and Berlin (1987, 1990, 1995 and 2005). In Venice (1988) he was a guest of the male choir “Coro Monte Peralba” and sang in the famous Frari Church. In the spring of 1989 the choir undertook an extensive concert tour to the USA with concerts in New York, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington, Cleveland, Chicago and Schaumburg / Illinois.

In autumn 1993 the choir made guest appearances in St. Petersburg and Kronstadt and the following year in the Ore Mountains. Ivan Rebroff engaged him for some of his concerts. The BBC Wales brought the choir to a television show in 1995 about German-Welsh relations. In 1998 concerts in Wales and Oxford followed. Queen Elizabeth II approved a concert at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.

In autumn 2000 the choir found an enthusiastic audience on its South America tour in Buenos Aires, Puerto Madryn / Patagonia and Rio de Janeiro.

The choir was in Finland on Midsummer Night 2008. In Helsinki, in addition to the visit to the German Evangelical Church, there was a much acclaimed spontaneous appearance in the rock church . Musical highlights were the reunion and the joint concert with the "Sekaset" choir in Siilinjärvi and the performance in the orthodox monastery Valamo (Karelia).

The choir appeared in local costume in the " Current Showroom " broadcast by NDR television from Bückeburg . The annual Advent concert in the collegiate church in Obernkirchen and participation in the Christmas serenade in front of Bückeburg Castle are already tradition .

repertoire

The repertoire of the Schütte Choir ranges from madrigals to choir songs from the Romantic period and the 20th century, as well as sacred choral music, to German folk songs and international folklore in the respective national language. Another focus is on Negro spirituals and gospels as well as spirituals from Africa. The Schütte Choir has been in close contact with the Ev. - Lutheran parish in Fuizai / Tanzania and the composer Elias Kivulenge who worked there . The Schütte Choir is currently the only choir north of the equator to sing its spirituals. The musical and personal ties were deepened in summer 2008 during a visit by Elias Kivulenge and the Fuizai Quartet through a workshop and several joint concerts in the local area.

The vocal composition is a bit unusual for a mixed choir. The tenor voice is sung by women. This is due to the original composition of the voices of the Schaumburg fairy tale singers.

The Schütte Choir has recorded various sound carriers. The current CD "Swing low" also includes three spirituals penned by the Tanzanian composer Elias Kivulenge.
