Shahr-e Kord ( Persian شهرکرد) is a city in western Iran and the capital of the province of Chahār Mahāl and Bakhtiyāri . The city is 107 km southwest of Isfahan and 521 km south of the state capital Tehran . The city has a population of 142,585 (as of 2012), most of whom are settled Bakhtiyari .
Until 1935 the city was still called Deh Kord , where Deh stood for village . After 1935 the name was changed to Schahr-e Kord in order to use the word Schahr for city to illustrate the growth and urbanization. Whether the name Kord really means Kurd is a matter of dispute among the inhabitants of Schahr-e Kord.
The city is home to several universities. It also has a thermal power plant and a telegraph station.
