The Schalijochbiwak is a refuge of the Swiss Alpine Club Section Basel in the Valais Alps in the canton of Valais in Switzerland .

Location and operation

The bivouac is on the Schalijoch between Schalihorn and Weisshorn at 3785  m above sea level. M. It is operated by the Basel section of the Swiss Alpine Club and is not manned.

history

The bivouac was built in 1963. It offers 8 beds and has a simple, functional interior with dishes. It is the starting point for reaching the Weisshorn via the Schaligrat.

Approaches

Schalijoch from the east
  • Only in summer: From the Rothornhütte by traversing the Schalihörner (normal route) in 8 hours, 1100 meters in altitude, level of difficulty ZS.

Because the glaciers are heavily feral, access from the west ( Cabane Arpitettaz ) is barely possible, and from the east ( Weisshornhütte ) only to a limited extent. Recommended only with good snow coverage. Information at the Weisshornhütte.
