The Schalihorn is 3974 m above sea level. M. high mountain in the Swiss canton of Valais . It lies between Täsch and Zinal . Within the Valais Alps it is included in the Weisshorn group . The summit is on the ridge that separates the Mattertal from the Val d'Anniviers . This continues south over the Hohlichtpass (3734m) , the Pointe Nord de Moming (3863m) , the Col de Moming (3717m) and the Pointe Sud de Moming (3963m) to the higher Zinalrothorn , while the ridge north to the Schalijoch ( 3748m) and then climbs over the Schaligrat to the summit of the Weisshorn , the highest and most famous summit west of the Mattertal.
While the summit of the Schalihorn itself is free of ice, there are several glaciers on its flanks . To the northeast lies Schaligletscher , in the southeastern Hohlicht glacier , in the west of Glacier de Moming and in the northwest of the small Glacier du Weisshorn .
Routes
The Schalihorn can be climbed from four sides:
- From the south from the Rothornhütte via Unteres Äschjoch (3551 m), Ober Äschhorn (3661 m) and over the Hohlicht glacier.
- From the east from the Weisshornhütte over the Schaligletscher and the Schalijoch.
- From the northwest from the Cabane Arpitettaz over the Glacier du Weisshorn and the Schalijoch.
- From the southwest from the Cabane du Mountet over the Arête du Blanc to just before the Zinalrothorn and from there to the summit.
The Schalihorn can also be crossed. All of the routes described have the character of an alpine tour with a level of difficulty ZS and an ascent time of several hours. In the immediate vicinity there is only the unguarded Schalijochbiwak in the yoke of the same name.
