The Cabane du Mountet is an alpine refuge in the Valais Alps . It is located at an altitude of 2886  m above sea level. M. above the eastern lateral moraine of the Zinal glacier in the Val d'Anniviers . The hut is owned by the Lausanne- based Diablerets section of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC). The hut is often referred to as Cabane du Grand Mountet to distinguish it from Cabane du Petit Mountet on the other side of the Zinal Glacier .

history

The hut was built in 1887. In 1919 it was expanded to 40 places. Extensions were also made in 1943 and 1996.

Ascent

The shortest ascent to the hut begins in Zinal in the rear Val d'Anniviers and takes about 4½ hours. The path from Cabane Petit Mountet is no longer marked (with traversing the Zinal Glacier).

Mountaineering

The Cabane du Mountet is the starting point for an ascent of Besso ( 3668  m ), Zinalrothorn ( 4221  m ), Dent Blanche ( 4357  m ) and Ober Gabelhorn ( 4063  m ).
