The Schamrock Festival of Women Poets is the only international festival for women poets . The first festival took place in Munich in 2012. It will be continued as a biennial . The second was held at the end of October 2014 and the third at the end of October 2016 in Vienna and Munich.

history

Since 2009 there has been a regular reading series "Schamrock - Salon der Dichterinnen" in the Pasinger factory in Munich . The festival emerged from the female poets' pubic rock salon. Readings, performances and discussions will address and discuss, among other things, how women can position themselves successfully in the literature business with their works. Encouraged by the success of the series, Augusta Laar, together with Alma Larsen and Sarah Ines Struck , planned an international festival with readings and performances for 2012.

The festival is funded by national and international institutions: the cultural department of the city of Munich , the Bavarian State Ministry for Science, Research and Art , the Upper Bavaria district , the Swiss cultural foundation Pro Helvetia , the Lyrik Kabinett foundation , GEDOK Munich, the South Tyrolean authors' association , the Finnish Literature Exchange , the Austrian Consulate General in Munich and the Austrian Cultural Forum Berlin .

1st Festival 2012

As support, Friederike Mayröcker sent the festival a greeting message : “I am entranced in your midst”. The festival lasted three days and took place in the Pasinger factory. In addition to readings, a writing workshop with Birgit Kempker was offered and performances by Augusta Laar and Kunst oder Unfall concluded the first two days. The 1st Festival 2012 was positively received by the press . It has been recognized several times with articles in the Süddeutsche Zeitung , among others .

2nd Festival 2014

The 2nd Festival 2014 , in which over 50 poets from 13 countries took part, took place in October 2014. The program included readings on October 20 in Vienna and on October 24–26. October in Munich. The festival began with a film festival in the Werkstattkino in Munich from 03. – 05. October. In addition, there was an event on October 17th entitled Man Seeks Woman. Viennese men read poems by women .

3rd Festival 2016

The country priorities of the 3rd festival in 2016 were Greece, Indonesia, Latvia and India. Over 50 poets from 17 countries and different generations sought an exchange with each other and with the audience. Some of the women read their texts in their national language, and translation assistance into German or English was provided. The Goethe-Institut attached its project Poets Translating Poets - Versschmuggel aus Südasien to the festival: German poets like Ulrike Draesner worked on translations together with Indian colleagues like Aruna Dhere. Crossing borders to other arts, especially music, was also offered.
