The Schar ( Kazakh Шар ; Russian Чар / Tschar ) is a left tributary of the Irtysh in eastern Kazakhstan .

The flock rises 20 km north of Kökpekti . It flows in a predominantly northwestern direction through the desert landscape in the north of Kazakhstan . It passes the administrative center of Kalbatau (formerly Georgijewka ), the town of the same name, Schar and the town of Nowotaubinka . The E127 trunk road runs along the river. It then turns north and flows into the Irtysh 45 km east of Semei .

The flock has a length of about 230 km. Its catchment area covers more than 14,000 km². The river is mainly fed by the snowmelt . In April the mean discharge 52 km above the mouth at the Karpowka gauge is 31 m³ / s, the annual mean is 6.2 m³ / s.
