Muhammad Sharif Pasha ( Arabic محمد شريف باشا, DMG Muḥammad Šarīf Bāšā ; also Mohamed Sherif Pasha ; * November 26, 1826 ; † April 19, 1887 ) was an Egyptian politician who was Prime Minister of the Khedivat Egypt in 1879, between 1881 and 1882 and again from 1882 to 1884 .

Life

Muhammad Sharif Pasha became Prime Minister of the Khedive Egypt for the first time on April 7, 1879 as the successor to Muhammad Tawfiq Pasha , who a few months later became the new Khedive as the successor to his father Ismail Pasha . He held the post of Prime Minister until August 18, 1879, before Riyad Pasha succeeded him on September 21, 1879. At the same time he also acted as foreign minister in his first government .

After the uprising of the Urabi movement under Ahmed Urabi Pascha , Muhammad Sharif Pascha took over the post of Prime Minister for the second time on September 14, 1881 after the dismissal of Prime Minister Riyad Pascha on September 10, 1881. He held this office until his replacement by Mahmud Sami al-Barudi on February 4, 1882. After the Anglo-Egyptian War broke out in the course of the suppression of the Urabi movement from May 1882 onwards, he finally became Prime Minister for the third time on August 21, 1882 as the successor to Raghib Pasha , while Urabi Pasha himself from July until his arrest after the Battle of Tel-el-Kebir on September 13, 1882 Prime Minister of a rebellious government. In his third government, Muhammad Sharif Pasha again served as Foreign Minister from 1882 to 1884.
