Schariwari is a German folk rock band from the Upper Bavarian Kirchseeon near Munich .

Band history

The French word Charivari (German: confusion) was chosen as the band name , which in Bavaria stands for a traditional costume chain. The lyrics are sung in Bavarian dialect .

Schariwari was founded in 1977 by the two composers and lyricists Günther Lohmeier and Hans Reupold. After first appearances in the Munich cabaret scene, the first television appearances followed, such as B. Show stage with Alfred Biolek, appearances at the Nuremberg Bardentreffen or the Oldenburg cultural summer.

A total of three LPs were released by 1983 , before the band largely withdrew. In 1995, Schariwari formed a new line-up and took part several times in the “ Songs on a Summer Evening ” festival at the Banz Monastery of the Bavarian Radio . Her song Who knows a answer was on the CD of the anniversary concert in 2011 . Since then five CDs and one DVD have been produced. Her stage activities in 2018 already spanned 40 years.

Bavarian Rauhnacht

In December 1996, the world premiere of the musical theater piece “ Bavarian Rauhnacht - A Mystical with Sharivari ”, conceived by Schariwari , took place. A storyteller leads through a mixture of mythology , folk rock and theater.

The Bavarian Rauhnacht was awarded the German Rock & Pop Prize in 2004. In January 2006 the (for the time being) last performance of the Mystical took place, which went on tour for ten years annually from the end of November to the beginning of January mainly in Bavaria, but also in Austria, Switzerland and Italy .

Since December 2018, the Bavarian Rauhnacht has been performed again after more than ten years: The venues were Ebersberg, Rosenheim and Landshut. The co-composer Hans Reupold no longer appears due to illness and has been replaced. The Mystical will continue to be performed in December 2019 / January 2020.
