The Schattbach is a flowing water in the southeast of Bochum . It rises in the Bochum district of Wiemelhausen . In Altenbochum , the Schattbach fed the graves of the former aristocratic house Steinkuhl .

The upper course has largely disappeared due to overbuilding. The brook does not come to light again until south of Opelwerk I and flows through today's retention basin before it drains the Laer graves, which are fed by an inheritance tunnel from the Isabella colliery . Here it takes up the Asbecke and then flows 400 meters north of Haus Heven as a right tributary into the Oelbach .

In the past, the brook was primarily important as a receiving water for the Dannenbaum colliery and some of the historical tunnels. It was contaminated with the pit water, and later also with heavy metals from the Opel factory I.

The construction of the so-called Opel-Querspange as part of the DüBoDo will remove many green areas from the stream.
