List of bodies of water in Bochum
The list of bodies of water in Bochum includes running waters and still waters . For some of the waters, descriptions of the water quality based on the saprobic system are available from the Biological Station Eastern Ruhr Area . The waters of the city of Bochum belong to the Emscher and Ruhr river systems . The flow length of the Bochum water system, including the piped areas, is 113 kilometers. With the end of mining in the Ruhr , a rise in the groundwater level and an increase in water levels in the rivers are to be expected.
The European Water Framework Directive requires that surface waters are restored to a good ecological and chemical status and that the groundwater is brought back to a good quantitative and chemical status.
In the area of the Emscher there is a conversion project of the water and sewage structures for a total volume of 4.5 billion euros. The groundbreaking ceremony took place in 1992.
