The Marbach , in historical spelling Maarbach , is a flowing body of water in Bochum . It is the almost nine kilometers long, southern and left source brook of the Hüller Bach . Some also regard it as the upper reaches of the Hüller Bach.

geography

course

The Marbach rises in the Bochum district of Weitmar and flows north through the Wiesental. In the area of Ehrenfeld and Stahlhausen , the stream is piped for about one kilometer, then it crosses Hamme . It finally unites with the Hofsteder Bach to form the Hüller Bach.

Renaturation

In 1908 the Emschergenossenschaft acquired land to regulate the stream. In order to relieve the Marbach and thus the Emscher of dirt, pipelines are being laid to collect the wastewater as part of the project to convert the Emscher system . Due to this work, the Marbach now has little or no water. With the completion of the sewer, renaturation work on the stream is planned.

A large ThyssenKrupp slag dump is also located on the riverbed of the Marbach near Goldhamme . The Marbach landfill is now to be put back into operation.
