List of bodies of water in Essen
The list of bodies of water in Essen includes running waters and still waters .
With the end of mining in the Ruhr , a rise in the groundwater level and an increase in water levels in the rivers are to be expected.
The European Water Framework Directive requires that surface waters are restored to a good ecological and chemical status and that the groundwater is brought back to a good quantitative and chemical status. In the area of the Emscher there is a conversion project of the water and sewage structures with a total volume of 4.5 billion euros. The groundbreaking ceremony took place in 1992.
