The Icktener Bach , called Staader Bach in the lower course , is a four-kilometer-long flowing water of the lowlands in the area of the cities of Essen and Mülheim an der Ruhr in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is an eastern and right tributary of the Ruhr .

geography

course

The Icktener Bach rises within the boundaries of the Essen district of Kettwig at an altitude of about 142.6  m above sea level. NHN southeast of the Berchem court . Its source is in a field just west of Springberg Street

It flows south, past the Ickten settlement to the east, then west. As the Staader Bach , it flows into the Ruhr on the right at the Staader Hof in Ickten .

Catchment area

The 2.278 km² catchment area of the Icktener Bach lies in the Ruhr valley and is drained through it via the Ruhr and the Rhine to the North Sea.

It borders

  • in the east to the catchment area of the Schuirbach , which flows into the Ruhr,
  • in the southeast to that of the Brederbach , which is also a tributary of the Ruhr,
  • in the northwest to that of the Zinsbach , which flows into the Rossenbeck and
  • in the north to that of the Ruhr tributary Rossenbeck directly.

Most of the catchment area is used as arable land.

nature and environment

In 2018 there were protests against development plans in the Bachtal.

In 2019 the city of Essen wrote: “The Icktener Bach was subjected to an inventory in 2006. Against the background of the results, the overall development potential was classified as rather low. A partial opening of the Icktener Bach is currently not planned due to the low ecological potential for the water. With regard to the depth of the water and the existing structural constraints (Am Hammershöfchen, Icktener Straße, RÜB), a partial opening is also not feasible from a hydraulic engineering and economic point of view and is therefore not sought. However, the urban planning does not preclude a possible future disclosure of the water, should significant framework conditions change in the future. "
