The Schießling is a 1667  m above sea level. A. high mountain in the eastern Hochschwab area in Styria in Austria .

Location and characterization of the mountain

Together with the north-north-west neighboring Oisching ( 1699  m above sea level ), the Schießling dominates the ridge west of the Seegraben, through which the Mariazeller Straße B20 leads to the Styrian Seeberg . The southern flank of the Schießling is characterized by extensive, only gently sloping alpine meadows, while its forested northeast flank slopes steeply to the Seegraben.

About one kilometer southeast of the summit is the Schießlingalm ( 1484  m above sea level ) with an alpine inn and numerous wooden houses. It can be reached in summer from Draiach via the Berghof on a toll road.

The Aflenz earth station is located above Graßnitz at the southern foot of the Schießling, and the ORF Schießling broadcaster at about 1200 meters above sea level on Draiacher Berg.

Climbs

  • The Schießlingalm can be reached from Graßnitz and from Dörflach south of the Bergstock in 1½ to 2 hours on hiking trails. The way to the summit over its gentle southern flank requires another 30 minutes from the alp.
  • The ascent from Seewiesen in the north via the Enzianhütte, the Hackentörl and the Oischingalm is much longer and takes 3½ to 4 hours.

Due to the unproblematic terrain, the Schießling is one of the best destinations for snowshoe hikes in the entire Hochschwab group in winter .
