Schiedlo (Polish Szydłów ) is a desert in the area of the Cybinka municipality in Poland . The Szydłów corridors are part of the Krzesin Landscape Protection Area (Krzesiński Park Krajobrazowy).

Schiedlo was across from Ratzdorf and the confluence of the Lusatian Neisse on the east bank of the Oder . It was the only place in Lower Lusatia east of the river.

history

Schiedlo came to Lusatia in 1249 when Heinrich the Illustrious , Margrave of Meissen and Lusatia, in an inheritance dispute between the Lower Silesian Piast dukes and brothers of Heinrich III. mediated. In return, they left the Schiedlo Castle and the associated area on both sides of the Oder to him.

In 1316 or 1319 the Neuzelle monastery acquired the castle and the village of Schiedlo. As an after-loan of the monastery, it was always given to various nobles who represented the actual local rule. For a long time (up to the secularization of Neuzell in 1817) the Knights of Loeben held the afterfief.

After Niederlausitz became part of Kursachsen in 1635, the ski jumps at Schiedlo were the subject of military conflicts because there was a favorable crossing of the Oder. During the Silesian Wars and the Seven Years' War , Prussian, Austrian, Russian and Saxon troops crossed the river here several times.

In 1815, Schiedlo came to Prussia with Niederlausitz . On October 1, 1908, Schiedlo was deleted as a municipality and the residents were forced to sell their houses and relocate. For reasons of economy, the Prussian government refused to build new dikes around Schiedlo, which was endangered by constant heavy flooding. Relocating the place was the cheaper solution.

Some houses were still inhabited after 1908 and after the First World War some buildings were used as youth hostels. The youth hostel was probably given up during the Second World War , when tourism was severely restricted due to the war. There is hardly anything left of Schiedlo, the remains of the walls of the last houses are completely overgrown with bushes.
