from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The shipping company Oltmann mbH & Co. KG is a shipping company that is run for six generations by members of the Oltmann family. It owns and operates container ships and bulk carriers. The company headquarters are in Stade in Lower Saxony.

history

Jürgen Oltmann senior (1803–1867) had the company's first ship built in 1836. It was an Ewer , which was named Meta-Marie or Meta Maria and was built by the ship's carpenter Peter Mahler in Dornbusch . The Meta-Marie is the second oldest ship that can be proven to have been built in Kehdingen . She was 16.3 meters long and could carry about 56 tons of load.

In 1862 the second ship, a two-masted ewer named Aurora, was added. It was bought by Jürgen Oltmann junior (1832-after 1907). The Aurora was only slightly larger than the shipping company's first ship, but had a significantly higher loading capacity of around 73 tons. Like his father, Jürgen Oltmann junior was also a captain; until 1907 he mainly sailed with the Aurora in the North and Baltic Seas .

In 1896 Theodor Oltmann (1858-?) Bought the Besan-Ewer satisfaction , which had been built in 1830, and in 1900 from Klaus Schulz in Dornbusch another Besan-Ewer, the Genius . He sold this ship in 1919.

The 1927 acquired Antje in 1913 on the Kremer shipyard built

Theodor Oltmann's son Johannes (Hans) (1891-?) Initially participated in a yacht schooner, the Anna (built in 1909) in 1920 . In 1922 he and his brother Jürgen bought a gaff schooner named Hanni (built in 1911), which remained in the business until 1927 and was then sold to acquire the three-masted schooner Antje (built in 1913). The three sailing ships that were now sailing for the shipping company were provided with auxiliary engines.

The shipping company's first motor ship, the Antje Oltmann , was built at the C. Lühring shipyard in Kirchhammelwarden after the Antje was sold in 1935 . In addition to her motor drive, the Antje Oltmann also had auxiliary sails.

With the coaster Hans Oltmann , built in 1955 in the Stader shipyard , a motor ship almost twice as large was purchased. At that time, Gerhard Oltmann (1923–2014) ran the business together with his father Hans. In 1962 the ship Anneliese Oltmann from JJ Sietas in Neuenfelde followed and in 1965 the Antje Oltmann (II) from the same shipyard.

The Ute Oltmann in Melbourne

With the acquisition of the Karen Oltmann (built in 1970), the shipping company switched almost entirely to full container ships . Anneliese Oltmann (II) was acquired in 1972, Karen Oltmann (II) in 1977 and Peter Oltmann in 1979 . Anika Oltmann followed in 1984 , in 1987 the Aurora , which had already been delivered in 1981, was purchased, and in 1989 the Genius, which was delivered in 1978 . It was followed by Sven Oltmann in 1992 , Hannes Oltmann in 1993 and Lukas Oltmann in the same year and Aurora (II) in 1995 . Jan (* 1955) and Peter Oltmann (* 1958) ran the business from 1993. Under their aegis, the company's headquarters were relocated from Dornbusch to Fredenbeck . In 2009 the shipping company Oltmann moved into a new domicile opposite the historic harbor in Stade . In the immediate vicinity, an old winch from the shipyard reminds of the earlier use of the property.

flag

The flag of the shipping company shows a black-white-red diamond on a yellow-white background, which surrounds a blue O. The colors yellow and white symbolize the province of Hanover , blue and white stand for the city of Stade and the colors of the diamond go back to the North German Confederation and the first flag of the merchant navy.

fleet

The shipping company's fleet includes the ships Anika Oltmann , Ute Oltmann , JPO Aquarius , JPO Aries , JPO Gemini , JPO Leo , JPO Cancer , JPO Capricornus , JPO Libra , JPO Pisces , JPO Sagittarius , JPO Scorpius , JPO Delphinus , JPO Dorado , JPO Vela , JPO Virgo , JPO Volans , JPO Vulpecula , JPO Taurus and JPO Tucana . They were built between 1998 and 2010. If the older of these ships came from the Volkswerft Stralsund or from Aker MTW Werft GmbH , the shipping company Oltmann no longer had a ship built in Germany after the JPO Leo was built in 2005.

The JPO Capricornus was the first ship in the world to follow the Extended Drydock Program. This program provides for the first docking not to be carried out after five, as before, but only after seven and a half years.

Others

The second Antje Oltmann capsized on October 15, 1976 near Hoek van Holland , because her inadequately secured cargo had passed over in a hurricane. Six crew members were killed, the captain and two other people were saved.

A murder or manslaughter occurred on the Ute Oltmann in 2009, to which a steward of the ship fell victim. The victim was apparently thrown overboard. Another crew member was accused. The accused was acquitted in the trial before the jury chamber of the Stader regional court.

A model kit was issued for one of the ships named Anneliese Oltmann .
