Body Talk Pt. 1 (German: "Body Language Part 1" ) is the fifth studio album by the Swedish singer Robyn . It was released on June 18, 2010 in Germany. The album is part of the Body Talk series, a series of three mini-album releases during 2010.

Background information

In an interview with Swedish magazine Bon , Robyn announced that he would release three new albums in 2010. She said:

“I thought for a long time about how I could shorten the time between two albums and discussed it with my manager Eric. He had the idea of just releasing the songs, promoting them on the tour and then writing new songs. And so we started to work ... I wanted this type of publication mainly because I was looking for ways to work more organically. After the last album, I was on tour for four years without being able to record new material on the side. I definitely didn't want to fall back into this pattern ... Bringing 15 songs together takes a long time, by the way. If I had made a regular album, I would have had to spend at least six months longer in the studio. "

- Robyn on the making of Body Talk Pt. 1

Robyn started working in Stockholm in July 2009 with Swedish producer Klas Ahlund, who is also executive producer on the album. The American singer Kelis announced a joint tour with Robyn on Twitter, entitled "All Hearts".

Songs

In Don't Fucking Tell Me What To Do , Robyn sings about all the things that upset or stress her right now: cigarettes, tour, manager and record label. However, Robyn denied that the song was about the music industry, stating, “I wrote the song after touring for a long time. It's addressed to myself, because I've expected too much and done too much work. ” Fembot , the album's first promo single, reached number 3 on the Swedish singles charts through downloads and airplay. According to Robyn, the song is about getting older and having children - but in a funny way.

The lyrics to Cry When You Get Older started with just a few words that were gradually knitted into a song. Robyn wants to express that young people shouldn't worry about everything, but do what they like, because everything will work out anyway. Dancehall Queen was born during a conversation about the pop group Ace Of Base . None Of Dem , which was created in collaboration with the Norwegian duo Röyksopp , describes a feeling of great boredom and the urge to do something and experience something. The acoustic ballad Hang With Me revolves around the vulnerability that an unwanted love between two friends brings with it. The album ends with the traditional Swedish song Jag Vet En Dejlig Rosa , which Robyn had already sung in 2005 at a benefit gala for the victims of the tsunami .

The album was received positively by critics without exception. Matthias Mante von Laut praised the album for its versatility and Robyn, who knows how to stand out from other artists. “The body talk staged there opens the stage for the two sides of your artist persona : vulnerability, romance and self-doubt on the one hand in Dancing On My Own bubblegum pop, which is in no way inferior to the great With Every Heartbeat ; Power, rebellion and smoldering anger in Dancehall Queen […] The half hour of 'Pt. 1 'then at the end with Hang With Me . Wrapped in a sugar-sweet acoustic coating of piano and strings, Robyn dissolves that dualism of strength and vulnerability [...] With this, Robyn asserts herself as the mistress of her own emotional state without reactivating the robot, ie having to pretend or deceive herself. Ultimately, it doesn't let the body talk, but the heart. The autonomous conclusion follows from dealing with the various facets of her inner and outer person. With this, the Swede positions herself at the forefront of all cyborgized pop singers at the moment, both musically and in terms of content. "

Holger Fleischmann, editor of the press , described Robyn's music as "infectious electro-pop: sometimes dark and mysterious, sometimes poppy or even as a comparatively minimalist dance floor grenade [...] So you succeed - including two ballads - a superb album with great refrains and many touching moments. "

Andreas Borcholte the magazine Spiegel evident from the work enthusiastically: "Eight consistently charming new songs are to contain the naive between ostensibly girlie romance and cool female Toughness oscillate [...] And with the sung in Swedish Jag Vet En Dejlig Rosa , a Another ballad, Robyn recommends in the end far beyond the genre of smart electronic tinkerers: Her machine beat is driven by a big heart. Dancing on My Own

The album's lead single is Dancing on My Own (German: "Alleine Tanzen" ), an electro-pop ballad written by Robyn and Patrik Berger. The song was released in Germany on June 11, 2010 and became Robyn's first number one hit in her home country Sweden. In Denmark (2nd place), Norway (6th place) and Great Britain (8th place) the title made it into the European top ten. In three weeks in the German charts it reached number 67, while it reached number 25 in the Flemish charts. Even before the publication of Body Talk Pt. 1 announced Robyn to release only one single per album. According to Robyn, the song was inspired by "sad disco anthems like Ultravox ' Dancing with Tears in My Eyes , Sylvester James and Donna Summer ".

Dancing on My Own is about a woman who, in a corner of the nightclub, watches her lover dance with another woman, even though he knows about her presence. Commenting on the song's meaning, Robyn said, “People go out to experience some kind of emotion. But it's not always fun. That also has a destructive trait. But I don't bother with it because going out has always been an opportunity for me to be myself and to be inspired. Even when I'm sad, I can shake everything off while dancing. "

In the music video for Dancing on My Own , made by Max Vitali, Robyn can be seen in a disco bathed in red light. Everyone around her starts kissing, only Robyn is dancing alone. You can also see them in a room with speakers, metal braces, cable drums, and spotlights on one wall, to which Robyn said, “This is going to be a bit like what I'm bringing with me on the tour. It's a performance video, but it will look like a club where people can dance. "
