The former monastery from the northwest

Today Weiler sign Schwaig , 2½ kilometers south-southwest of the Upper Bavarian municipality main town Wildsteig in Weilheim-Schongau , was a monastery and a summer resort for the canons of the monastery Rottenbuch founded. In 1629 the monastic estate Schildschwaig was created by merging the individual farms Zum Engel and Zum Jäger under the Rottenbuch provost Michael Piscator , which was managed by the canons themselves and served as a summer resort. In 1678 a chapel with the patronage of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was built next to the courtyard . The chapel was initiated by Probst Augustin Oberst and built in 1678. The building is 50 meters east-southeast of the manor house above the road that passes by (from Unternogg to Steingaden ). In 1803 it was profaned and used as a storage room. The new landlord Augustin Wörmann had it restored and rededicated in 1866. The two-bay building with three-eighth end and western ridge turret has a rococo altar from 1760/70. The chapel is not accessible as it is located in the walled rear property.
