The Schimper Glacier is a glacier in the East Antarctic Coatsland . It flows in the eastern part of the Herbert Mountains in the Shackleton Range to the north-northeast to the Slessor Glacier .
The first aerial photos of the glacier were taken in 1967 by the United States Navy . The British Antarctic Survey carried out a survey of the area between 1968 and 1971. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the glacier in 1972 after the German naturalist Karl Friedrich Schimper (1803–1867), who in 1835 had put forward the theory of a European Ice Age based on the distribution of boulders .
