The battle of Lutterberg took place on October 10, 1758 during the Seven Years' War in southern Lower Saxony near Lutterberg . Since another battle took place there in 1762 , it is also known as the First Battle of Lutterberg .
About 42,000 French soldiers under the command of Charles de Rohan, prince de Soubise fought against about 14,000 British, Hanoverian and Hesse-Kassel soldiers under General Christoph Ludwig von Oberg and Lieutenant General Johann Casimir von Isenburg-Birstein .
The Allied forces were defeated by the French cavalry and forced to withdraw.
Charles de Rohan received the marshal's baton as a result of the battle . General François de Chevert was awarded the Grand Croix des Ordre royal et militaire de Saint-Louis .
