Battle of Boitwarden

The Battle of Boitwarden took place in 1260 near the village of Boitwarden (today the district of Wesermarsch near Brake (Unterweser) ).

Boitwarden was strategically located on the border between Stedingen and Rüstringen . The Oldenburg Count Johann I and his allies attacked the Frisians near Boitwarden. The Oldenburg had an army of 2,000 men, but lost to the Frisians. These broke the dike between Hammelwarden and Elsfleth , so that the country was spoiled for 7 years. On the Oldenburg side, "several" losses were to be lamented.
