The Nussdorf slaughterhouse was a municipal slaughterhouse for cattle in the 19th district of Döbling and part of Vienna's meat supply .

history

The Nussdorf slaughterhouse in Grinzinger Straße 151 near Kreilplatz was built around the same time as the Hernals and Meidling slaughterhouses . The ownership rights to the property acquired in accordance with the purchase agreement on November 17, 1886 and located in Nussdorf were incorporated in different proportions into the cadastral communities of Oberdöbling , Unterdöbling , Grinzing , Heiligenstadt and Nussdorf .

In 1922, the slaughterhouse was closed and left to today's municipal department MA 48 - vehicle fleet and city cleaning. In 1927, the wing with the slaughterhouses was converted into a wagon shed with workshops as well as lounges and washrooms for the workers. The former porter's house was also demolished at a later date. Today the Heiligenstadt dung place is located here.

description

former slaughterhouse and stable building

The slaughterhouse Nussdorf, which was built in 1886 according to plans and under the supervision of the Vienna City Building Authority, essentially consisted of the

  • two-storey main building with a late-historic plaster structure on Grinzinger Strasse, the
  • Slaughterhouse and that
  • Stable building, two facing brick buildings with gable roofs standing parallel to each other .

The porter and gas engine building was demolished over time, as was the so-called epidemic courtyard with space for four cattle and an associated slaughterhouse.

Despite various renovations and demolitions, the building complex in its current form still corresponds to the state of construction at the time of construction. In addition to the pig slaughterhouse in Sankt Marx , the Nussdorf slaughterhouse is the only slaughterhouse in the city of Vienna that has largely been preserved in its original state .
