Manfred Wehdorn

Manfred Wehdorn (born January 23, 1942 in Vienna ) is an Austrian architect .

Life

Manfred Wehdorn studied architecture at the Technical University of Vienna from 1960 to 1966 . In 1969 he received his doctorate with a dissertation on “The architectural monuments of the iron and steel industry in Austria. (A contribution to the research and maintenance of technical and economic buildings.) " . In 1979 he received his habilitation in the fields of monument preservation and industry .

From 1981 until his retirement in 2012, Wehdorn was a professor at the Vienna University of Technology and head of the Institute for Art History and Monument Preservation. He has been running his own architecture office in Vienna since 1973.

Activity in committees and organizations

  • 1984–1998: Lecturer at the International School of Conservation of Monuments (ICCROM) in Rome
  • 1985–1989: Chairman of the Industrial Heritage Working Group at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg
  • 1986–1991: Chairman of the Monument Advisory Council for Austria
  • since 1988: Member of the Vienna Old Town Conservation Fund
  • 1991–1998: Chairman of the Advisory Board for Urban Planning and Urban Design for Vienna
  • since 1998: Expert for questions of monument preservation in the European Commission in Brussels (representation Austria)
  • 1999–2003: Member of the Senate of the Vienna University of Technology
  • 2004–2012: Chairman of the newly founded Institute for Art History, Building Research and Monument Preservation at the Vienna University of Technology
