Allentsteig Castle is located in Allentsteig in Lower Austria .
The castle on a rock in the north of Allentsteig, which borders on a former moat in the east, was founded by the Kuenringers from around 1000. It was owned by the Lords of Kamegg-Kaya until around 1390 and later changed hands frequently. In 1956 it became the property of the Federal Army .
Most of the outer wall of the five-sided Renaissance building comes from the medieval castle. The oldest components are the mighty keep from the second half of the 12th century with a Romanesque portal on the courtyard side and the ashlar wall adjoining it to the east. The top floor of the tower with battlements and tent roof dates from 1904 in its current form. The complex is accessible from the east through a two-storey gate hall from the 16th century with a wide bay window above a rectangular Renaissance gate . The inner gate wall from around 1300 is broken through by a Gothic pointed arch gate from the first half of the 14th century. The windows with profiled stone frames on the outer front are dated to the late 16th / early 17th century. The rectangular, three-storey arcade courtyard marked on three sides with flat arched arcades over Tuscan columns is designated 1576. The interior of the castle was largely redesigned towards the end of the 19th century. The historicist tiled stoves , for example, come from this time .
Currently (2016) the command of the Allentsteig military training area and the 4th reconnaissance and artillery battalion are housed in the castle .
