Ayl Castle

The Ayl Castle is a former Hofgut the cathedral chapter of Trier, located in Trier street in Ayl in Rhineland-Palatinate district Trier-Saarburg is.

The building complex, consisting of a residential building and an adjoining press house, was built in 1823 by the Trier judiciary Soertz in a classicist style. The current shape, which justifies the name castle , was given to the property in 1897 by its owner at the time, Justizrat Goertz, who raised the building by a half-story and had the facade redesigned in neo-baroque style. A spacious park and garden area adjoins the building.

In 1927 the former winery was transferred to the episcopal Konvikt , which owned it until shortly before the turn of the millennium.

The last neglected and run-down property was sold to private by the Episcopal Konvikt in 1995. It was renovated until 1999 and was originally intended to be used as a senior citizens' residence. Today Schloss Ayl offers the space for events such as art exhibitions. A wrought-iron gate with sandstone pillars from the castle grounds was moved in front of the seminary building in Trier's Jesuitenstrasse.

At the beginning of 2013 the castle was on sale for EUR 865,000. The castle was sold again in 2016 and is now to be converted into a senior citizens' residence by 2018.
