He arranged for the fortress to be converted into a renaissance castle . In 1660, the western wing was added under Wilhelm Lamboy von Cortesheim . During the rule of the Colloredo-Wallsee , two more wings and the castle tower were built. In 1723 the palace chapel of the Virgin Mary of Sorrows was built .

In 1787, Franz Karl von Colloredo-Wallsee arranged for it to be converted into a three-winged baroque palace . In 1833 the castle and the manor came to the Czernin von Chudenitz family. Diepold ( Děpold ) von Czernin initiated the reconstruction of the castle chapel in the neo-Gothic style and the extension of the castle park in the 1870s . In 1945 the Czernin were expropriated. The castle passed into state ownership and was temporarily used by the Ministry of the Interior. After the Velvet Revolution it was returned to the Czernin family.
