Johann Venuto

Johann Anton Venuto , Czech Jan Antonín Venuto (born May 24, 1746 in Jaispitz , † April 1, 1833 in Königgrätz ) was a Bohemian clergyman, watercolorist, draftsman and cartographer. He gained fame primarily through his vedute of castles and towns in Bohemia and Moravia.

Life

Venuto studied theology at the Olomouc Jesuit College from 1763 to 1768 . On May 28, 1768 he was ordained a deacon in Kremsier . Venuto was later ordained a priest for the benefit of the Diocese of Olomouc and was ceremonial of the suffragan bishop . From 1770 to 1772 Venuto worked as a cooperator in Ingrowitz . On the mediation of his friend and sponsor, the Königgrätz pastor Johann Leopold von Hay , Venuto then went to Königgrätz. In 1785 he took over a seat in the cathedral chapter of St. Ghost. He exercised his office as canon on the Königgrätzer Kapitel into old age. Venuto was buried in Chrast .

Venuto perfected his extraordinary drawing talent autodidactically. He produced a large number of watercolors with city and castle views, most of which were engraved in copper in Prague by Georg Döbler , Wenzel Berger and Anton Pucherna .

In addition, Venuto drew a map of the Diocese of Königgrätz , which was also engraved in copper. He drew the mint for Nikolaus Adaukt Voigt's “Description of the previously known Bohemian coins” (1771).
